"You Guys Are in Big Trouble Now" Threatening Remarks, Sexual Harassment
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] A police officer from the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency was arrested on the spot after causing a disturbance when he was asked to leave for demanding a hotel female employee to eat food together in a guest room.
On the 10th, the Busan Nambu Police Station announced that they have booked and are investigating Police Sergeant A from the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency on charges of causing a disturbance, including pushing a hotel employee's arm.
Sergeant A was caught by the police on charges of assault and others after a scuffle with an employee in the lobby of a hotel in Suyeong-gu, Busan, around 10:45 p.m. on the 9th.
According to the hotel, Sergeant A suddenly demanded, "Let's eat chicken together in the room," while receiving information from a female employee at the front desk about whether eating inside the hotel was allowed.
It is also known that Sergeant A made sexually harassing remarks to the female hotel employee.
The female employee, feeling humiliated, informed a male colleague of the incident, and when the male employee asked Sergeant A to leave, Sergeant A caused a disturbance.
CCTV footage from the hotel at the time shows Sergeant A pushing the male employee several times forcefully.
The footage also shows Sergeant A pointing at the CCTV and seemingly pretending to fall intentionally despite no contact.
It was reported that Sergeant A also made threatening remarks to the hotel staff, saying, "You guys are in big trouble now," along with severe verbal abuse.
Sergeant A entered the hotel without properly wearing a mask and was warned once by the hotel staff.
At the time, Sergeant A did not reveal his police identity.
The Busan Metropolitan Police Agency stated that Sergeant A has been suspended from duty and that they will conduct a thorough investigation into additional charges and take strict measures.
Recently, as police officers under Busan police have repeatedly caused controversies due to drunk driving, theft, gambling, and other incidents, a special alert for establishing public service discipline has been issued since the 1st of this month, and a two-week intensive inspection is underway.
On the 9th, the head of the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency held a public service discipline campaign together with the leadership and the workplace council at the first-floor entrance of the police headquarters building.
