[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Doosan Mobility Innovation (DMI), an unmanned aerial vehicle company, announced on the 9th that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Zhongxin Heavy Industry Kaicheng Intelligence, a Chinese robotics company, to jointly develop hydrogen robots that can be used in firefighting and industrial sites.
The two companies plan to jointly develop firefighting robots used for fire suppression and industrial robots that perform monitoring functions in general industrial sites based on hydrogen fuel cells while inspecting fire scenes. They also agreed to jointly explore sales channels and sales in China and overseas markets. The goal is to unveil a prototype in the first half of this year and mass-produce the product within the year.
Zhongxin Heavy Industry Kaicheng Intelligence is a subsidiary of China's Zhongxin Group that produces smart equipment and robots. It owns more than 50 types of specially developed robots, and in the firefighting robot sector, it holds a 70% market share in China, ranking first in the industry. DMI expects to expand the business area of hydrogen fuel cells into the ground mobility sector through this agreement. Firefighting hydrogen robots require a high level of durability because they are used in fire situations.
Lee Doo-soon, CEO of DMI, said, "Using hydrogen fuel cells reduces the main body weight compared to existing battery-type firefighting robots and can extend operating time. Based on this agreement, we will strive to secure stable customers in the Chinese firefighting robot market and diversify the application areas of hydrogen fuel cells to expand DMI's scope."
