Dongseo University (President Jang Je-guk) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the 8th at 2 p.m. in the Global Room on the 11th floor of the New Millennium Building with four companies: Hong Kong's Goldford Group, G-Rocket Accelerator, Korea's City Labs, and OnChina, forming the GBA-Korea consortium for innovative startup investment and talent development.

GBA refers to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, a Chinese version of Silicon Valley, which is an international business region removing various regulations and maximizing openness to the outside world.

In particular, the region is home to 35 Chinese unicorn companies such as Tencent, Guangqi Group, Ping An, Lenovo, and COSCO Group, as well as 20 Fortune 500 companies.

Following New York, San Francisco, and Tokyo's Bay Areas, it is expected to become the world's fourth coastal growth hub region.

Through the consortium, Dongseo University plans to play roles such as discovering promising startups, providing education and mentoring, and supporting entrepreneurship and global corporate employment connections for students in related majors.

Additionally, Hong Kong's G-Rocket will be responsible for growth support including providing a Chinese-speaking regional base for Korean startup companies, attracting foreign investors, and linking overseas markets.

G-Rocket currently operates regional centers funded by local governments in seven areas including Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Zhongshan in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, as well as Nanjing, Shijiazhuang, and Chengdu.

The parent company, Goldford Group, is a global venture capital investing in smart technologies such as blockchain and fintech, as well as education, culture, and entertainment, with an extensive network spanning mainland China and Southeast Asia.

Currently, Dr. Johnny NG (Wu Jie Zhuang, ?杰庄), a member of the Chinese Political Consultative Conference, serves as chairman, and is expected to play a pivotal role in the globalization of Korean startups.

President Jang Je-guk of Dongseo University said, “This consortium will develop into a successful international cooperation business model through global industry-academia collaboration and R&D project cooperation by professors and researchers in Dongseo University's specialized and internationally competitive fields such as design, digital content, and information and communication, supporting education and mentoring for promising startups, and supporting entrepreneurship and global corporate employment for related major students.”
