Hwasun-gun Conducts 'Dementia Screening Tests' for Elderly Drivers

[Hwasun=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Ji-woon] Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gu Chung-gon) is providing free 'dementia screening tests' required for the regular fitness test (renewal) of driver's licenses for elderly drivers aged 75 and over.

According to the county on the 8th, under the amended Road Traffic Act, elderly drivers aged 75 and over must undergo a regular driver's license fitness test every three years.

The regular driver's license fitness test requires taking a dementia screening test that assesses memory and judgment necessary for safe driving, and then completing mandatory elderly driver education by choosing either in-person or online training.

Elderly drivers who wish to take the test can visit the Dementia Safety Center to undergo the dementia screening test and receive a result sheet for submission to the traffic safety education institution, which they then submit to the driver's license examination office or police station.

A Dementia Safety Center official stated, "As traffic accidents involving elderly drivers are increasing, we are conducting dementia screening tests," and added, "For the safety of drivers and pedestrians, we will do our best to prevent traffic accidents involving elderly drivers by conducting dementia screening tests at the Dementia Safety Center."
