"One Night at the Campsite, Next Day Experiencing History and Culture of Bukhansan"... Gangbuk-gu 'Uidong Family Campsite' Pilot Operation

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Park Kyumsu) is about to open the Uidong Family Camping Site in April and has begun a pilot operation.

The family camping site covers an area of 11,561㎡ and is located around 316 Uidong. It consists of 31 camping sites (27 general sites, 2 glamping sites, 2 traditional ondol sites), a visitor center, parking lot, and a multipurpose lawn plaza. Wireless internet (WIFI) is available throughout the site.

The camping site is located at the entrance of Uiryeong-gil, Section 12 of the Bukhansan Dulle-gil trail, and the Uidong Forest Culture Village where various traditional foods can be enjoyed. It is conveniently accessible, being a 4-minute walk from Bukhansan Ui Station, the terminus of the Ui-Sinseol urban railway. Nearby, hiking trails lead up to Baegundae Peak of Bukhansan. The urban resort condominium (Uidong Amusement Park project) and the mountain exhibition experience center are also in the final stages of construction.

Residents wishing to experience the site in advance can apply from the 22nd to the 26th of this month through the online reservation site (Interpark Ticket). Reservations can be made for one site per person for a 1-night, 2-day stay. The maximum number of companions per camping site is 4.

The pilot operation will take place from the 4th to the 6th of next month, and usage during this period is free. However, due to the nature of the reservation system, a payment of 1,000 KRW must be made to complete the reservation, which will be refunded later. Check-in and check-out times are from 2 PM on the day of arrival to 11 AM the following day.

After the pilot operation, usage fees will be 30,000 KRW for general sites, 90,000 KRW for glamping, and 110,000 KRW for traditional ondol sites. An additional electricity fee of 5,000 KRW applies to general sites, while other fees are included in the listed prices.

The district is preparing to install an ‘LED Music Flower Garden’ in time for the official opening. This will create a nighttime attraction combining landscape lighting and music.

Any issues identified during the pilot operation will be addressed before the official opening of the camping site.

Additionally, by the first half of this year, a Cheongja kiln site experience center will be established on one side of the camping site. The existing Cheongja exhibition and experience center will be remodeled, and a kiln model and outdoor learning area will be newly created. In 2011, a kiln site used for producing Cheongja celadon from the late Goryeo to early Joseon period was excavated at the foot of Bukhansan in Gangbuk-gu.

Park Kyumsu, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, said, “The creation of the Uidong Family Camping Site signifies the completion of a tourist course with stories. We hope visitors will enjoy the opportunity to spend a night at the camping site and then wake up to hike Bukhansan or walk along Uiryeong-gil to fully enjoy nature.”
