Namwon-si Invests 5 Billion Won in Specialized Fruit Industry Development Project

Namwon-si Invests 5 Billion Won in Specialized Fruit Industry Development Project

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Nosik] Namwon City, Jeonbuk, announced on the 5th that it will support 5 billion KRW in 12 sectors this year to resolve the difficulties of fruit farmers and expand its reputation nationwide.

This year, the city plans to actively support differentiated modernization facilities (facility greenhouses) to ensure smooth production of peaches.

It will also focus on producing premium grapes.

As part of this, the city plans to create a premium grape production complex by investing in the establishment of a high-quality grape production complex and FTA response fruit facility modernization projects, including unmanned pest control, irrigation facilities, and variety renewal projects to enhance quality.

Previously, through a contest for fruit-specialized production complexes, the city completed the Deokgwa district project in 2019 and the Songdong district project in 2020. This year, the Ayoung 2 district was selected as the only fruit-specialized production complex in Jeonbuk in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs contest project, securing 1.3 billion KRW in national funds over two years.

Accordingly, the city plans to drastically improve the farming environment and establish a high-quality fruit production and distribution system by supporting the development of water sources within orchards, drainage channels, and farm roads from 2021 to 2022.

In addition, to expand the cultivation of specialty crops, which are gradually decreasing, the city plans to focus on discovering new income crops by supporting specialty (medicinal) crop farmers with a budget of 100 million KRW for seeds and material costs to enable stable production.

Mayor Ihwanju of Namwon said, “Our city is focusing on fostering a safe and excellent fruit industry based on its natural geographical environment,” adding, “We will make every effort to realize creative agriculture where nature and farming become one and to stand tall as the nation’s top horticultural industry hub.”
