Changwon City "Imposing Fines for Excessive Packaging During Seollal"... Uncollected Trash on Seollal and the Following Day

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Changwon City, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 5th that it has been implementing the 'Seollal Holiday Household Waste Management Plan' from the 28th of last month until the 17th of this month.

During this period, the city will conduct environmental cleanup activities focusing on vulnerable areas such as stations and shopping districts crowded with people, as well as parks and riversides. It also plans to carry out prior public awareness campaigns to prevent illegal dumping and reduce food waste during the Seollal holiday.

On the first and last days of the holiday, the 11th and 14th, waste (volume-based waste and food waste) will be collected as usual, but there will be no collection on Seollal day and the following day (the 12th and 13th).

Changwon City explained that they plan to complete as much collection as possible on the 11th to minimize waste accumulation during the holiday and will organize a situation team and on-site mobile team to promptly respond to waste-related complaints during the holiday period.

From the 15th, when the holiday ends, they plan to mobilize all resources including the Eup, Myeon, and Dong Purumi Clean Teams, environmental workers, collection company cleaning staff, and equipment to conduct a final thorough cleanup.

A Changwon City official stated, "From the 28th of last month to the 10th of this month, we have been conducting an 'Intensive Inspection of Excessive Packaging for Seollal' mainly targeting large supermarkets in the jurisdiction and plan to impose fines on violators."
