Targeting Diesel Vehicles with Emission Grade 5... Expected Reduction in Air Pollutants
[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] Chuncheon City, Gangwon Province, is promoting the largest-ever early retirement support project for old diesel vehicles this year. The project volume is about 2,000 units, the largest since 2017.
According to the city on the 5th, the number of old diesel vehicles retired early was 68 units in 2017, 239 units in 2018, 1,302 units in 2019, and 956 units in 2020.
The support targets are diesel vehicles classified as emission grade 5 and road-use type 3 construction machinery (dump trucks, concrete mixer trucks, concrete pump trucks) manufactured under emission standards applied before 2005.
Diesel vehicles with emission grade 5 can be checked on the Ministry of Environment or the vehicle emission grade system website (emissiongrade.mecar.or.kr).
The support amount is up to 3 million KRW for vehicles with a gross weight under 3.5 tons. For vehicles over 3.5 tons, up to 4.4 million KRW for engines 3500cc or less, and up to 7.5 million KRW for engines over 3500cc up to 5500cc.
Additionally, for engines over 5500cc up to 7500cc, the maximum is 11 million KRW; over 7500cc, up to 30 million KRW; and for dump trucks, concrete mixer trucks, and concrete pump trucks, up to 40 million KRW.
However, this year, for vehicles under 3.5 tons that cannot be equipped with reduction devices, commercial vehicles, vehicles owned by small business owners (including those owned by representatives), and vehicles owned by basic livelihood security recipients and lower-income classes, the maximum amount has been adjusted to 6 million KRW.
Kang Dae-geun, Director of the Climate Energy Division, said, "We will accelerate the early retirement of old diesel vehicles to realize a sustainable city and reduce air pollutants."
