"Give Residential Fire Safety Equipment as a Gift to Parents Living Alone"

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] The Gyeongsangnam-do Fire Headquarters launched a campaign on the 5th to promote ‘Gifting Home Fire Safety Equipment to Hometown Houses’ to prevent residential fires.

According to fire statistics over the past nine years, out of an average of 2,951 fires annually, 485 were residential fires, accounting for 16.4%, but 41.5% of fatalities occurred in residential fires.

In particular, the elderly population aged 60 and over accounts for 64% of the total damage, highlighting the need for safety precautions in single-person households living in homes.

Accordingly, the provincial fire headquarters designated gifting home fire safety equipment to the homes of elderly living alone as a Lunar New Year safety message and is promoting it.

Using non-face-to-face media such as major local media outlets, administrative agency SNS, and electronic billboards within the province, they plan to raise safety awareness by informing the necessity of installing home fire safety equipment and distributing videos focused on usage instructions and action guidelines.

Kim Jo-il, head of the Gyeongnam Fire Headquarters, said, "As the time spent at home is expected to increase due to COVID-19, securing safety in residences is more important than anything else," and added, "Fire alarms that alert with warning sounds and fire extinguishers that can suppress initial fires are essential items for home safety, so we ask for your participation in gifting home fire safety equipment to your hometown houses."
