Ministry of Culture Supports 104 Museums and Art Galleries with Smart Technology-Based Assistance

Inducing Content Creation Utilizing 4th Industrial Revolution Technologies

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 5th that it will support the establishment of intelligent (smart) infrastructure at 86 public museums and art galleries and 18 private museums and art galleries. Utilizing Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies such as virtual reality (VR) and artificial intelligence (AI), the initiative aims to develop new content and provide unique cultural experience services.


The targets were selected through an integrated public contest. The fields were divided into 'Support for immersive content production and experience space (zone) creation (around 500 million KRW / 50% local government cost-sharing)', 'Support for intelligent museum and art gallery establishment (around 100 million KRW / 50% local government cost-sharing)', and 'Support for online content production (around 50 million KRW)'. A total of 104 projects were selected through document and presentation evaluations.


Examples include Seoul Museum of History's "Seoul Reacting at Your Fingertips," Gyeonggi Provincial Museum's "Invitation to the Gyeonggi Sidae Feast," Seoul Museum's "Interactive Creative Platform," Busan Museum of Modern Art's "AI Technology-Integrated Non-Face-to-Face Docent," Incheon Art Platform's "e-Smart Art Museum," Korean Traditional Food Museum's "I Am Doenjang," and Gyodong Art Museum's "Art-e-da Jeonju," among others.


An official explained, "After customized consultations with experts, project plans will be finalized and full-scale implementation will begin next month."
