National Route 15 'Goheung~Bongnae' Entire Section Opens on the 8th

[Asia Economy Reporter Kangwook Cho] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 5th that the 3.2km section in Yenae-ri, Bongrae-myeon, Goheung-gun (newly constructed and improved 2-lane road, Section 2 of Reference 1) will open at 2 p.m. on the 8th.

With this opening, the entire section of the Goheung-gun "Goheung-Bongrae Road Construction Project" (6.9km, Okgang-ri, Podu-myeon and Yenae-ri, Bongrae-myeon, Goheung-gun), linked with the 3.7km section in Okgang-ri, Podu-myeon, which has been in operation since December last year, will be completed.

The "Goheung-Bongrae Road Construction Project," which began in March 2015, invested a total of 53.3 billion KRW over about six years to improve the road geometry for safer travel by upgrading sections with narrow lane widths, poor road alignment (increased curves), and steep longitudinal slopes.

With the completion of the entire "Goheung-Bongrae Road Construction Project," travel time will be reduced by 5 minutes (from 12 minutes to 7 minutes), and travel distance will be shortened by 1.7km (from 8.6km to 6.9km),

which will not only reduce the risk of traffic accidents for local residents but also improve accessibility to nearby sites such as the "Naro Space Center" and "Bongrae Mountain Cypress Forest," greatly contributing to the revitalization of local tourism. In particular, major equipment for the "Naro Space Center," which had been mainly transported by sea due to many curves and steep slopes raising safety concerns, can now be safely transported by road thanks to this opening.

Juhyun Jong, Director of the Road Bureau at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, "The improvement of the alignment of the existing road, which had a high risk of traffic accidents, is expected to greatly help the safe use of roads by local residents and the revitalization of the local economy," adding, "We will continue to actively support the creation of a safe and convenient road environment through the expansion of interregional arterial road networks and further support national balanced development linked to the local tourism industry."
