[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 3rd that it will hold the ‘2040 Gwangju Urban Master Plan UCC Contest’ to create the future spatial plan of Gwangju 20 years from now together with its citizens.
Participants can submit creative videos under 3 minutes that express their imagination and hopes for Gwangju in 2040 in various fields such as housing, transportation, parks and green spaces, landscape, economy, welfare, and culture.
The contest is divided into general and student categories, selecting a total of 12 winners including 1 grand prize winner, 2 gold prize winners, and 3 silver prize winners per category. Winners will receive awards from the Mayor of Gwangju, the Superintendent of Gwangju Education Office, and prizes.
The submission period is until the 16th of next month. Participants must upload their videos on their personal YouTube accounts or similar platforms and submit the link along with the application form via email.

Kim Jae-sik, Director of the City Planning Division, said, “Gwangju City is operating a website led by civic groups that simplifies difficult urban planning terminology, breaking away from the previous government-led approach to allow citizen participation in the urban master plan.” He added, “We hope that various ideas from general citizens and students will be gathered through the 2040 Gwangju Plan UCC contest.”
