[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Amid increasing political instability in Myanmar due to the military coup, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that there have been no reported damages to Korean residents so far. The Ministry also expressed its position demanding a democratic resolution to the situation in a statement released that day.

An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated during a back briefing with reporters on the 2nd, "There have been no reports of damages to our citizens among the Korean residents so far."

In Myanmar, the military declared a state of emergency, causing difficulties in communications such as wired and wireless phones, as well as transportation including flights. The Ministry official said, "With the temporary suspension of all domestic flights within Myanmar, Korean residents are experiencing inconveniences in entering and exiting the country," and added, "We will communicate with the authorities to minimize any damages to our residents."

It is estimated that most of the 3,000 to 3,500 Korean residents live in Yangon city. The Ministry official stated, "There have been no incidents involving residents living in Yangon city," and added, "We have disseminated notices and precautions through our internet homepage urging special caution during this emergency situation." The Ministry plans to continue monitoring the situation and maintain communication with the Korean community regarding any additional reports.
