"COVID-19 Herd Immunity Formation... Comprehensive Management Needed from Production to Post-Vaccination Monitoring"

[Asia Economy Reporter Ji-hwan Park] There are urgent calls for establishing a transparent management system covering the entire vaccine distribution process?from production, shipment, delivery, storage, vaccination, to post-vaccination monitoring?to achieve herd immunity through effective COVID-19 vaccines.

On the 1st, Deloitte Korea Group cited Deloitte Global's report titled "Trust-Based Supply Strategy for COVID-19 Vaccines" to make this statement.

The report argued, "Building trust in vaccines based on transparent and clear communication is essential, and without persuading groups that distrust vaccines, achieving herd immunity through vaccination is impossible."

According to a survey conducted last September by the World Economic Forum and Ipsos targeting over 20,000 adults across 27 countries on COVID-19 vaccine preferences, 26% of the global population showed reluctance to receive the vaccine. All vaccines approved so far require two doses. The most important aspect is establishing a system where all records?from production to vaccination and post-vaccination monitoring?are digitized for tracking and documentation.

For effective COVID-19 vaccination, it is argued that management should cover basic information such as product number and expiration date, as well as delivery records, storage information, patient vaccination data, and adverse reaction information.

The report emphasized, "In the case of COVID-19 vaccines, clinical trials proceeded rapidly?from product conception to conditional approval in just 11 months?resulting in relatively limited clinical data on side effects and adverse reactions. Therefore, a system for monitoring adverse reactions per product, rapid analysis of side effects, and response mechanisms is absolutely necessary."

Ji-man Hwang, leader of the Life Sciences division at Deloitte Korea Group, stated, "The most important factors in vaccination are speed, traceability, and transparency, which form the foundation for building trust in the overall vaccine program," adding, "It should be possible to evaluate the status of each critical element and simulate alternatives in case of failure."
