Infections Mainly at Religious Facilities and Adult Entertainment Venues in Gwangju... Total 1,748 Cases

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Additional infections are continuing in Gwangju Metropolitan City, centered around religious facilities and adult entertainment arcades.


According to Gwangju City on the 29th, as of 2 p.m. that day, there were 15 new confirmed cases, of which 11 were related to Gwangju Antioch Church and King Adult Game Land.


With 8 additional cases on the day, the cumulative number of confirmed cases from Antioch Church has reached 62, including church members, family, and acquaintances. The previous day saw a mass confirmation of 30 cases.


Since the index patient, Gwangju case number 1516, was identified on the 25th, a series of confirmed cases have emerged through follow-up investigations.


Currently, among 427 people tested, including Antioch Church members, the results for 31 individuals are still pending.


Health authorities have identified that Antioch Church held two worship services on the 20th and 24th. The church facilities have been closed since the 25th, and an administrative order banning gatherings at the church has been in effect from the following day until the 10th of next month.


At King Adult Game Land, an adult entertainment arcade, rapid transmission has been observed since the index patient, Gwangju case number 1645, was confirmed on the 27th. After 9 people including employees, family members, and visitors were confirmed infected in a chain on the previous day, 3 more cases were confirmed on this day.


Health authorities plan to encourage testing via disaster text messages, anticipating additional visitors.


Regarding Gwangju case number 1499, whose infection route is unknown, 7 people were confirmed over two days: 6 the previous day and 1 on this day.


One more contact of another unknown infection source, Gwangju case number 1744, was added, and 2 new cases requiring investigation of infection routes also emerged.


The cumulative number of confirmed cases in the Gwangju area has reached 1,748.
