Taejongdae, which has never been excluded from the Top 100 Korean Tourist Attractions.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Which tourist attractions in Busan are included in the ‘Top 100 Korean Tourist Destinations’ that every Korean must visit? Eight places in Busan have been selected.
They are Taejongdae Resort Park, Gamcheon Culture Village, Haeundae Beach, Yongdusan & Jagalchi Tourist District, Yonggung Cloud Bridge & Songdo Beach, Dadaepo Dream Sunset Fountain & Dadaepo Beach, Huinnyeoul Culture Village, and Songjeong Beach.
The ‘Top 100 Korean Tourist Destinations’ has been selected and announced every two years since 2013 by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization, highlighting 100 outstanding tourist spots representing Korea.
This is the fifth time the list has been compiled. After recommendations from local governments and narrowing down to twice the number of preliminary candidates, the selection process includes ▲1st round written evaluation (qualitative and quantitative) ▲2nd round on-site evaluation ▲3rd round final selection committee review, resulting in a new list every two years.
This time, Busan achieved its highest number ever since 2013, with eight places selected.
The eight selected spots are ▲‘Taejongdae,’ where visitors can immerse themselves in Busan’s fantastic coastal scenery ▲‘Gamcheon Culture Village,’ known as the Machu Picchu of Korea ▲‘Haeundae Beach,’ Busan’s representative tourist destination that attracts large crowds in summer ▲‘Yongdusan & Jagalchi Tourist District,’ where you can experience the film festival and the history of Busan’s old downtown ▲‘Yonggung Cloud Bridge & Songdo Beach,’ where you can feel the thrill of walking over the sea ▲‘Dadaepo Dream Sunset Fountain & Dadaepo Beach,’ famous for its beautiful sunsets ▲‘Huinnyeoul Culture Village,’ where you can see both the sea and a hillside village ▲and ‘Songjeong Beach,’ known as a surfing sanctuary.
Taejongdae has been a regular favorite, selected every time since the first announcement in 2013. Gamcheon Culture Village, also called the “roofless art gallery,” attracts 3 million visitors annually, and Haeundae Beach, which has transformed into a year-round tourist destination with new experience facilities such as an observatory and a beach train, has been selected four times.
Dadaepo Dream Sunset Fountain & Dadaepo Beach, where you can enjoy sunsets and beautiful fountains together, the beautiful Huinnyeoul Culture Village resembling Santorini in Greece, and Songjeong Beach, loved as a wedding photo spot for soon-to-be newlyweds and a popular MT (Membership Training) location for university students, have been selected for the first time in the Top 100 Korean Tourist Destinations this year.
Jo Yoo-jang, Director of the Tourism MICE Industry Bureau of Busan City, said, “Although travel is still not free due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, we are pleased that many of Busan’s representative tourist spots have been selected in the Top 100 Korean Tourist Destinations despite the difficult times,” adding, “We hope that everyday life returns to normal soon so that everyone can have the opportunity to enjoy Busan’s representative tourist attractions.”
