[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 28th that it will begin operating the public wastewater treatment facilities within the newly developed industrial complexes starting next month.
Until now, Gwangju has been promoting the construction of public wastewater treatment facilities as part of the industrial complex infrastructure development project to cleanly treat wastewater discharged from industrial complexes within permissible discharge standards and release it into public water bodies.
With this construction project proceeding as planned, sequential trial operations will commence.
The comprehensive trial operation of the public wastewater treatment facilities includes no-load testing to check the operation and status of newly installed equipment, and load testing involving the input of wastewater and treatment microorganisms to ensure appropriate quality of discharged water and verify performance for equipment optimization.
Additionally, to minimize environmental impact on the industrial complexes and surrounding areas, the wastewater treatment process will be located underground to facilitate odor control.
At the Pyeongdong 3rd Industrial Complex, with an occupancy rate of 40%, sufficient volume for trial operation has been secured, and load testing will begin next month. The Bitgreen Industrial Complex is expected to start load testing from September when Gwangju Global Motors is fully operational.
The currently developing public wastewater treatment facilities include three locations: ▲Pyeongdong 3rd Industrial Complex Public Wastewater Treatment Facility (Phase 1 treatment capacity 550 tons/day) ▲Bitgreen Industrial Complex Public Wastewater Treatment Facility (Phase 1 treatment capacity 2000 tons/day) ▲Urban High-tech & Energy Valley Industrial Complex Public Wastewater Treatment Facility (Phase 1 treatment capacity 1000 tons/day).
The public wastewater treatment facilities at Pyeongdong 3rd Industrial Complex and Bitgreen Industrial Complex in Gwangsan-gu were completed last year, while the Urban High-tech & Energy Valley Industrial Complex facility under construction in Nam-gu began in November last year and is scheduled for completion next year.
Jang Woo-hyun, head of the city’s Sewage Management Division, stated, “Once the public wastewater treatment facility construction project, which is the final stage of returning water taken from nature back to nature, is completed, wastewater can be stably treated. We expect the productivity of Gwangju’s industrial complexes and the environmental quality around the complexes to greatly improve.”
