[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The Ministry of Unification stated that it is not currently at the stage of conducting concrete discussions to provide COVID-19 vaccines to North Korea.

An official from the Ministry of Unification said on the 28th, "Infectious diseases like COVID-19 require joint responses between South and North Korea to ensure the life and safety of not only North Koreans but also our citizens," but added, "At this stage, there have been no specific government discussions regarding vaccine support to North Korea."

Previously, Minister of Unification Lee In-young hinted at the possibility of providing vaccines to North Korea, and Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun also stated at a foreign press policy forum held at the Korea Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul, the day before, that vaccines could be supplied to North Korea assuming there is a surplus.
