[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwanwoo] Students in the startup clubs at Dongshin University have produced 16 prototypes over the past year, with two of the clubs achieving actual startup success.
According to Dongshin University on the 28th, the Startup Education Support Center conducted a lab-based startup club program from April 16 last year to the 20th of this month, with a budget of approximately 94 million KRW.
Students from 12 departments, totaling 123 members, formed 16 teams and utilized the university-supported budget to create prototypes related to their majors.
As a result, all teams successfully developed 16 prototypes, including natural sulfur antioxidant mask packs for anti-aging, cosmetics with UV protection and skin whitening effects, and herbal teas.
Among them, the ‘iVision’ team, composed of 10 students from the Department of Optometry, developed a device that purifies wastewater generated during eyeglass lens processing, founded the company ‘JIC Vision Co., Ltd.,’ and moved into the Dongshin University Startup Incubation Center.
Over the past year, they received awards such as the Excellence Award at the Jeonnam Venture Club Competition, the Outstanding Paper Award in the poster category at the Korean Society of Optics and Photonics Autumn Conference, and the Silver Award at the Jeonnam University Student Startup Camp, earning recognition for their highly marketable wastewater purification device.
Additionally, Moon Doa (senior) from the Department of Exercise Prescription, part of the ‘YouStar’ team, directly founded a Pilates center in Gwangju, achieving sales of approximately 5.3 million KRW.
The prototypes developed by the 16 startup teams at Dongshin University can be viewed at the ‘2020 Lab Startup Club Activity Achievement Exhibition’ held in the lobby of Dongshin University Central Library until the 3rd of next month.
Park Daehun, head of the Dongshin University Startup Education Support Center, stated, “We will continuously support the production and sharing of startup achievements to revitalize the startup culture on campus and contribute to the development of the local community.”
