Four Local Governments Including Goyang City Cooperate to Secure 'Special City Authority'

[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Goyang City in Gyeonggi Province, along with Suwon, Changwon, and Yongin cities, has agreed to operate the 'Joint Task Force Team (TF) for the Launch of the Four Special Cities' and the 'Administrative Council of the Four Special Cities.'

Goyang City announced on the 28th that "the four special cities will join forces to secure the authority of the special cities officially launched on January 13, 2022."

On the 27th, Lee Jae-jun, Mayor of Goyang, Yeom Tae-young, Mayor of Suwon, Baek Gun-gi, Mayor of Yongin, and Heo Seong-mu, Mayor of Changwon, held a meeting at The State Hotel Seonyu in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, to discuss ways to secure the authority of the special cities.

At the meeting, the local government heads decided to operate a 'Joint TF Team for the Launch of the Four Special Cities' to discover special administrative tasks for securing practical authority of the special cities.

The TF team, composed of officials from the four special cities, will jointly promote related legal and enforcement ordinance revisions and publicity activities. The 'Administrative Council of the Four Special Cities,' to be formed in March, will conduct joint research related to the special cities and hold forums to expand special city authorities.

Mayor Lee Jae-jun of Goyang said at the meeting, "Special cities represent another challenge and opportunity to pioneer authority and discretion on our own," adding, "We will not only cooperate with the four special cities but also discover customized special administrative tasks for Goyang City to create a substantial special city tailored to Goyang."
