Over 80 Local Rice Cake Shops in Songpa-gu Participate to Deliver to Elderly, Disabled, and Grandparent-Grandchild Families... Local Businesses and Institutions Also Continue Sharing Ancestral Ritual Supplies and Rice
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) will donate 1.4 tons of rice cake soup rice cakes to help neighbors in need ahead of the Lunar New Year.
About 80 members of the Songpa-gu branch of the Korea Rice Cake Food Processing Association are participating in this donation.
Although the members have faced many difficulties due to a sharp decline in sales caused by COVID-19, they have united their hearts to support neighbors who are experiencing even lonelier and tougher situations.
The rice cake soup rice cakes donated by the members weigh 1.4 tons, which is worth more than 10 million KRW.
On the 29th at 3 p.m., the district office will hold a handover ceremony in the mayor's office and deliver the rice cakes to elderly living alone, disabled people, grandparent-headed families, and social welfare facilities in the area.
Lee Hong-gyu, head of the Songpa-gu branch of the Korea Rice Cake Food Processing Association, said, "Through this small sharing, we hope that the elderly, disabled, and other neighbors in need in the community will feel that they are not alone and have a warm-hearted Lunar New Year."
In addition, sharing continues from local companies and institutions in celebration of the holiday. Kigang Construction is donating 1,000 ham gift sets, Seoul Agro-Fisheries & Food Corporation is donating 300 boxes of ritual food, Lotte Corporation is donating 1,000 bags of white rice, and Hanmi Pharmaceutical's Hanmi Women's Association is donating 500 bags of white rice, which will be delivered to families in crisis.
Park Seong-su, mayor of Songpa-gu, said, "I sincerely thank the residents who practice love for their neighbors even in these difficult times due to COVID-19," and added, "We will continue to work harder to support the spread of a sharing culture and create a vibrant Songpa where we live together."
