'Xbox Game' Purchase with Mobile Payment... SKT Customers Pay 0 Fees

[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] SK Telecom announced on the 28th that it will be the first domestic mobile carrier in Korea to support mobile phone payments on Microsoft (MS) services.

SK Telecom customers can simply pay with their mobile phones after logging in with their Microsoft account when purchasing content from the Microsoft Store and website.

Mobile phone payments are available on devices such as Windows-based PCs, Xbox, and mobile terminals, and customers can purchase major Microsoft subscription products like Xbox Game Pass as well as third-party developers' software and games. However, Microsoft 365 will be included in the mobile payment support scope starting from March this year.

Customers can save on payment fees incurred when purchasing content sold through Microsoft. When paying with the existing method using an international credit card, a fee of about 2-3% of the payment amount is charged, but mobile phone payments do not incur overseas approval fees or KRW payment fees.

Additionally, SK Telecom has enabled customers to directly set mobile payment limits in the content usage fee details of mobile T World bill inquiry and payment services in response to the subscription economy era. It is also possible to manage monthly, daily, and per-transaction payment limits separately.

Han Myung-jin, head of SK Telecom's Marketing Group, stated, “SK Telecom and Microsoft have actively collaborated to enhance customer convenience,” and added, “As the subscription economy base expands with services like Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass, SKT plans to continuously expand support to help customers conveniently use subscription services.”
