Civil Servant "How Dare You Talk Back to a Public Official"
Verbal Abuse to Building Owner Over Parking Dispute... Civil Servant Suspended
Netizens Flood with Mocking Comments "Came to See the Honorable Nari"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] The once quiet free bulletin board of Wonju City Hall has been flooded with mocking posts such as "I came to see the honorable public official" and "Is this the place where that great public servant works?"
On the 27th, over 200 posts mocking public official A or protesting against Wonju City Hall were uploaded on the free bulletin board of Wonju City Hall's website.
This followed the revelation that public official A, affiliated with Wonju City Hall, insulted and sent threatening messages to a building owner who asked to move a parked car.
Netizens are demanding strict punishment, saying "Please severely discipline the public official in question." Comments such as "Good thing I don't live in Wonju," "I will bow deeply in front of City Hall when passing through Wonju," and "The representative must be embarrassed" were also seen.
Earlier, A, a 30-something level 9 public official, parked his car in someone else's building parking lot and received a call asking him to move it. In response, A approached the building owner who requested the car to be moved and started cursing abruptly.
A shouted, "I am a public official, XXXX. Do your job well, XXXX. You are not someone who can treat me like that."
In front of the building owner, A continued lecturing and cursing, saying, "Do you know who my representative is? It's the mayor, the mayor. XXX," mentioning the mayor. Nearby closed-circuit television (CCTV) captured A cursing at the building owner.
For two days, A sent threatening messages to the building owner, saying things like "Where do you dare to defy a public official?" and "Let's settle this."
Wonju City Hall reported that A violated the duty to maintain dignity under the Local Public Officials Act and suspended him from his position on the 26th. Wonju City Hall plans to decide the disciplinary level based on the police investigation results.
