[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] The Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency and the Jeonnam Provincial Council announced on the 27th that they held a meeting on the 26th at the Jeonnam Provincial Council to ensure the successful establishment of the autonomous police system.
At the meeting, Lee Jaeyoung, Head of the Autonomous Police Division of the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency, Kim Hanjong, Chairman of the Jeonnam Provincial Council, and Vice Chairmen Kim Seongil and Gu Bokgyu attended together.
They shared various matters related to the operation of the autonomous police system following the nationwide implementation on July 1 this year, including the enactment of ordinances related to autonomous police operations and the formation of the autonomous police committee, and discussed future plans.
The Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency formed an autonomous police task force led by the Head of the Autonomous Police Division and plans to closely cooperate with the 'Jeollanam-do Autonomous Police Preparation Team' to swiftly complete preparatory work such as the enactment and revision of ordinances. After a pilot operation process, the autonomous police system will be officially implemented from July 1.
The 'Jeollanam-do Autonomous Police Committee' will consist of seven members: one appointed by the governor, two recommended each by the provincial council and the committee recommendation committee, and one each recommended by the National Police Commission and the Superintendent of Education, all appointed by the governor.
The 'Committee Recommendation Committee,' which recommends two of the seven autonomous police committee members, is composed of five members: the Commissioner of the National Police Agency, the chairpersons' council of basic local councils, the council of basic local government heads, the chief judge of the district court, each recommending one member, and the Chief Secretary of Jeonnam Provincial Office (ex officio).
Lee Jaeyoung, Head of the Autonomous Police Division of the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency, stated, "The success of the autonomous police system depends on the politically neutral composition of the committee. We will recommend security experts with insight into local security conditions and issues, such as opinion leaders active in the local community, to provide security services with high resident satisfaction."
