[2021 Asia Consumer Awards] Binggrae Melona, 21 Billion KRW Sales Legend Right After Launch

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Binggrae Melona is a legend in the domestic ice cream industry, having achieved sales of 21 billion KRW immediately after its launch in 1992. At that time, melon, a symbol of premium fruit, was applied to ice cream products for the first time in Korea.


The Oltta Melona Tube, a product utilizing the Melona brand, is the world's first tube ice cream with a square shape. This product won the Korea Packaging Federation Chairman's Award at the 2019 Future Packaging New Technology Government Awards. The Future Packaging New Technology Government Awards, hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, is the most prestigious packaging technology award in Korea. The Melona bar, a representative domestic ice cream, was realized in a tube style, and the square-shaped tube was designed considering moldability, distribution environment, and ease of consumption. Melona is a leading product of Hallyu ice cream and is sold in 21 countries worldwide.
