New COVID-19 Cases at 559... [Asia Economy Reporter Lee Chun-hee] The daily number of new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in South Korea has risen back to the 500s. It is the first time in ten days since recording 520 cases on the 17th.


The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency's Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced on the 27th at midnight that the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases increased by 559 from the previous day to 76,429. This is a significant increase of 210 cases compared to 349 cases the day before.


The sources of infection for the new confirmed cases were 516 local transmissions and 43 imported cases.


Among the locally transmitted cases, a notable 21.7%, or 112 cases, were reported in Gwangju alone. This is attributed to the outbreak of 109 confirmed cases the previous day at the TCS International School in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, affiliated with the IM Mission. Along with 171 cases at the IEM International School in Daejeon and 39 related cases in Hongcheon, Gangwon Province, the total number of confirmed cases related to the IM Mission has exceeded 300.


In the metropolitan area, 274 confirmed cases were identified, accounting for 53.1% of the total, with 120 cases (23.3%) in Seoul, 137 cases (26.6%) in Gyeonggi Province, and 17 cases (3.3%) in Incheon.


Other regions reported the following cases: ▲Busan 31 ▲Gyeongnam 20 ▲Gangwon 18 ▲Jeonnam 12 ▲Jeonbuk 11 ▲Gyeongbuk 10 ▲Chungbuk 8 ▲Daegu 6 ▲Ulsan 5 ▲Sejong 4 ▲Chungnam 4 ▲Daejeon 1. Jeju reported no new cases.


There were 43 imported confirmed cases, of which 12 were detected during quarantine and 31 were identified in the community. Among them, 22 were Korean nationals and 21 were foreigners.


The number of patients who have recovered and been released from isolation reached 65,478, an increase of 685 from the previous day. Among the confirmed patients receiving hospital treatment, the number of critically ill patients remained unchanged at 270. The death toll rose by 7 to 1,378.


On the previous day, 46,484 diagnostic tests were conducted for suspected cases. At temporary screening clinics set up in the metropolitan area, 22,020 tests were performed, confirming 52 new cases.
