KMA's 2021 Weather and Climate Specialist Training Program
Internship Opportunities Provided to Half of the 30 Graduates
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) is selecting professionals among university (graduate) students to nurture talent in the meteorological and climate fields. Selected individuals will also have the opportunity to intern at international meteorological and climate organizations for six months.
On the 27th, the KMA announced that it will promote the "2021 Meteorological and Climate Professional Talent Development Project." Since its launch in 2015, 174 people have completed the program, and among them, 96 have been dispatched to international meteorological and climate organizations such as the World Meteorological Organization and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.
The KMA will select a total of 30 trainees. University students or higher who major in meteorology, climate, or international affairs can apply. International professional training (in July) will be provided. The professional training consists of ▲ understanding meteorological and climate work ▲ training on the qualities required for working at international organizations.
Among the trainees who complete the training, about 15 selected individuals will be dispatched as interns to international organizations related to meteorology and climate, gaining practical experience for up to six months. The KMA plans to support the selected interns with round-trip airfare and living expenses during the dispatch period.
Those interested in participating can refer to the recruitment announcement on the Korea Meteorological Industry and Technology Institute website starting in March and submit their application forms and related documents.
Park Kwang-seok, Administrator of the KMA, said, "This international meteorological and climate professional talent development project is expected to serve as a stepping stone for nurturing talent with international competence and capabilities to advance onto the global stage."
