[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] On the 27th, Jo Gyu-il, mayor of Jinju City, Gyeongnam, announced that he held the first 'Date with Citizens' session of 2021 by meeting five key activists of the Mangyeong-dong cultural and educational community, Doshi Dalpaengi, in the situation room on the 5th floor of the city hall.

'Doshi Dalpaengi' is a community where residents themselves created a communal activity space in 2017, with 11 groups engaging in regular monthly meetings averaging 33 sessions, involving about 90 participants in activities such as painting, reading, writing, and education.

In December of last year, it was selected as an excellent case in the '2020 Local Community Activity Excellence Contest' hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and received the Minister of the Interior and Safety Award.

Recently, members of Doshi Dalpaengi and local residents of Mangyeong-dong collaborated over several years to produce the Jinju Village Travel Map - Gangnam Edition.

At the 'Date with Citizens' event, CEO Lee Tae-gon introduced the background and activities of the community, saying, "There are many citizens in Jinju striving to live in diverse ways, and I hope people recognize that such individuals are active in Mangyeong-dong," adding, "I am grateful to feel that we are receiving attention and support."

Jo Gyu-il, mayor of Jinju City, stated, "Without administrative support, residents themselves are making the neighborhood a livable place with a human touch through community activities," and added, "If such voluntary community activities by residents spread, Jinju will become a city where citizens are happy and want to live."
