Four-Story Building Scheduled for Completion in May; 1st and 2nd Floors as Senior Centers, 3rd and 4th Floors as Daycare Facilities... Supporting Healthy Aging, Leisure Activities, and Quality Elderly Welfare Services
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) announced that it is accelerating the completion of the construction project for the district-run Daehak Senior Center, including the Daycare Center.
The district began construction last August to build a district-run senior center in Daehak-dong, an area relatively lacking in elderly welfare facilities, to support the healthy aging and leisure activities of local seniors and provide high-quality elderly welfare services through the Daycare Center.
Replacing the old Daehak Senior Center, the district purchased the site at 16 Daehak 12-gil, Gwanak-gu, with a land area of 255㎡ and a total floor area of 499㎡, consisting of four above-ground floors. The finishing work is underway with a goal of completion in May.
The new building’s first and second floors will be used as the senior center, while the third and fourth floors will serve as the Daycare Center facilities. The total project cost, including land acquisition, amounts to 2.9 billion KRW.
In particular, the day and night care facility “District-run Sillim Daycare Center,” located on the third and fourth floors of the senior center, will enhance the physical and cognitive functions of seniors experiencing difficulties in daily life due to geriatric diseases and will be responsible for their health management.
The center has a capacity of 21 people and targets long-term care benefit recipients (grades 1 to 5) aged 65 or older who are physically or mentally frail or disabled and require protection during day and night.
Additionally, a dementia-specialized room will be operated to provide various management programs for seniors struggling with dementia.
Meanwhile, since the launch of the 7th local government administration, the district has been promoting the activation of senior centers by creating an environment for facility openness, allowing residents to use the space.
Through resident demand surveys, nine resident-use spaces have been created so far, and by next year, a total of 12 locations will be established and opened to revitalize the senior centers as multi-generational spaces, not just facilities exclusively for seniors.
Mayor Park Junhee said, “By constructing new senior centers to replace aging ones, we will support the healthy aging and leisure activities of seniors and provide a variety of high-quality home care services through the Daycare Center. We will continue to promote customized activation of senior centers tailored to the needs of seniors and do our best to create an environment where seniors can enjoy themselves.”
