Yangcheon-gu, First Basic Local Government to Sign Safety Management Service Contract with Construction Machinery Safety Management Institute
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Kim Soo-young) has signed a safety management service contract with the Construction Machinery Safety Management Agency since 2021 to ensure safety at small-scale construction sites.
In December last year, the district held a disaster preparedness evaluation meeting to prevent safety accidents involving construction machinery (heavy equipment) and discussed various safety measures.
As a result, to establish more permanent measures, a service contract was signed with the Korea Construction Machinery Safety Management Agency, setting standards for safety management at small-scale construction sites.
Under this service contract, when construction machinery (heavy equipment) such as excavators and tower cranes are deployed at small-scale public construction sites, the Korea Construction Machinery Safety Management Agency must complete safety inspections of the machinery involved and issue a safety inspection report before construction can commence, which is expected to prevent heavy equipment safety accidents in advance.
This is particularly significant as it is the first implementation among basic local governments following the amendment of the Construction Technology Promotion Act (effective December 10, 2020), which strengthened safety management at small-scale construction sites.
For inquiries, please contact the Construction Management Team of the Construction Management Division, Yangcheon-gu Office.
Yangcheon District Mayor Kim Soo-young stated, “We will strive to expand this system not only to small-scale public construction sites but also gradually to other areas to create a safer Yangcheon.”
