[Asia Economy Reporter Chunhee Lee] The daily number of new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in South Korea has dropped to the 300s, down from the previous day.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced on the 26th at midnight that the cumulative number of COVID-19 confirmed cases increased by 354 from the previous day to 75,875. The sources of infection for the new confirmed cases were 338 local transmissions and 16 imported cases.
Among the locally transmitted cases, 196 cases occurred in the Seoul metropolitan area, accounting for 58.0% of the total. This includes ▲Seoul 101 cases (29.9%) ▲Gyeonggi 79 cases (23.4%) ▲Incheon 16 cases (4.7%).
Other regions reported ▲Gangwon 42 cases ▲Busan 27 cases ▲Daegu 12 cases ▲Gwangju 12 cases ▲Gyeongnam 12 cases ▲Jeonnam 9 cases ▲Gyeongbuk 8 cases ▲Chungbuk 7 cases ▲Chungnam 6 cases ▲Daejeon 4 cases ▲Sejong 2 cases ▲Jeonbuk 1 case. Ulsan and Jeju reported no confirmed cases.
There were 16 imported confirmed cases. Among them, 6 were detected during quarantine, and the remaining 10 were identified locally. Nine were Korean nationals and seven were foreigners.
The number of patients who have been declared recovered and released from isolation reached 64,793, an increase of 1,837 from the previous day. Among the confirmed cases receiving inpatient treatment, the number of critically ill patients was 270, down by 5 from the previous day. The death toll rose by 11 to 1,371.
On the previous day, 46,682 diagnostic tests were conducted on suspected cases. At temporary screening clinics set up in the Seoul metropolitan area, 24,364 tests were performed, confirming 38 new cases.
