A Man in His 30s Caught Driving the Wrong Way on the Highway for About 10 Minutes While Intoxicated

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Sharon] A man in his 30s who drove in the wrong direction on the highway while intoxicated was caught by the police.

According to the 8th District Highway Patrol Unit on the 26th, 17 reports were received that a Starex van entered the Shin Daegu Expressway in the wrong direction toward the Miryang Interchange (IC) exit around 11:29 PM the previous day.

The patrol unit checked the Korea Expressway Corporation's closed-circuit television (CCTV) and apprehended driver A (late 30s), who was driving in the wrong direction at the 32.5 km mark toward Daegu on the Shin Daegu Expressway, about 10 minutes after the reports were received.

Test results showed that A's blood alcohol concentration was at the license cancellation level (0.08% or higher).

Although it was an extremely dangerous situation, there were no collision accidents or casualties thanks to the quick reports from citizens and the police's immediate response.

The patrol unit explained that from 3 km before the apprehension location, patrol cars zigzagged to guide the vehicles behind to slow down and controlled the lanes.

The police are investigating A on charges of drunk driving and wrong-way driving.
