Worldwide COVID-19 Cases Surpass 100 Million

[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] The total number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) worldwide has surpassed 100 million.

The statistics aggregation site Worldometer reported that at around 3:30 AM local time on the 25th, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases worldwide reached 100,010,000. The cumulative death toll stands at 2,144,141.


According to the World Bank (WB), this means that approximately 1.3% of last year's estimated global population of 7,673,530,000 people have been infected with COVID-19.


The global cumulative confirmed cases exceeded 90 million on the 10th, and increased by 10 million within 16 days. Since the first patient was reported in Wuhan, China on December 31, 2019, it has taken about 1 year and 1 month for the total infections to surpass 100 million.


The tally by Johns Hopkins University in the U.S. is also close to surpassing 100 million. According to Johns Hopkins University's count, the cumulative number of patients is 99,517,851.
