[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] President Moon Jae-in stated, "Korea will unwaveringly move toward 'carbon neutrality by 2050,'" and pledged efforts for global climate adaptation, including the Digital Green New Deal and the operation of a climate adaptation academy.

On the 25th, President Moon attended the 'Climate Adaptation Summit' held by the Netherlands via video conference to seek international solutions for climate change adaptation and expressed his commitment to climate adaptation actions.

Climate change adaptation is one of the two pillars of the 'Climate Change Convention' and the 'Paris Agreement,' aiming to take appropriate actions or attitudes in response to current or anticipated climate and its impacts, mitigating or avoiding damage, or utilizing given opportunities to induce positive outcomes.

President Moon emphasized that Korea has been establishing and implementing five-year climate adaptation plans since 2009, before the Paris Agreement was concluded, and stated, "Korea will unwaveringly move toward the '2050 carbon neutrality' pledged last year."

He said, "We will establish and practice 'small action rules' that can be implemented in daily life, promote the 'Green New Deal' combined with digital innovation across all sectors of society, and share the experiences and achievements with countries around the world."

He also announced support for climate adaptation efforts in developing countries and plans to jointly operate a climate adaptation academy with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Secretariat starting this year. He requested keen attention to the 2nd P4G (Partnership for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030) Summit to be held in Korea this May.

The Blue House evaluated, "President Moon's consecutive participation in climate-related summits following the Climate Ambition Summit last December widely demonstrates Korea's active involvement in the international community's climate change response efforts and serves as an opportunity to further advance as a leading country in climate response."
