[Asia Economy Reporter Son Sun-hee] The Thai government is reported to begin COVID-19 vaccinations starting from the 14th of next month.
According to local media on the 25th, the Thai Ministry of Public Health announced this vaccination plan and stated that healthcare workers will be the first recipients. Additionally, government leaders are also scheduled to receive the vaccine to emphasize its safety to the public.
Thailand has ordered 61 million doses of the vaccine from the multinational pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca. Last week, the Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved emergency use, and 50,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine will arrive in Thailand during the first week of next month for vaccination. The Thai government plans to complete vaccinations for about half of its population of approximately 70 million by the end of this year.
On the same day, Thailand reported 187 new confirmed cases, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 13,687. The death toll increased by 2 to a total of 75.
