Department of Physical Therapy at Dong-Eui University of Science, Selected as a 'Physical Therapy Education Accreditation Body'

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The Department of Physical Therapy (Head Baek Il-hoon) at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology (President Kim Young-do) has been selected as a ‘Physical Therapy Education Accreditation Institution’ by the Korean Physical Therapy Association.

This education accreditation evaluation is a system recognized by the Korea Physical Therapy Education Evaluation Institute to determine whether the operation of the curriculum, educational conditions, and educational outcomes meet the requirements of the nation, society, and the physical therapy profession for qualitative growth in physical therapy education.

Since 2011, the Korean Physical Therapy Association has established a preparatory committee for physical therapy education accreditation evaluation to promote qualitative improvement, standardization, and unification into general universities of physical therapy education.

The evaluation was conducted across six areas: vision and operational system, curriculum, students, faculty, facilities and equipment, and educational outcomes, with 16 evaluation sections and 34 evaluation items. Based on the evaluation, institutions are judged as accredited, conditionally accredited, or not accredited.

The Department of Physical Therapy at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology submitted a university self-evaluation report in August last year and was selected as an accredited institution through a document review and on-site visit evaluation by the Korea Physical Therapy Education Evaluation Institute in November, receiving excellent evaluations in major areas such as recent curriculum and educational outcomes. The accreditation period is five years, until 2025.

Established in 2009, the Department of Physical Therapy at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology is equipped with various practical training environments covering all fields of physical therapy, including neurology, orthopedics, exercise therapy, basic medicine, and physical therapy diagnostics. It operates a systematic clinical practice program in connection with Dong-Eui Medical Center, a general hospital under the academy, as well as regional large hospitals and rehabilitation centers.

Through various practical training programs and systematic field-centered practical education, the Department of Physical Therapy at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology achieved a national exam pass rate of 98.1%, exceeding the national average, and a graduate employment rate of 97.5% last year, establishing itself as a leading department in the domestic physical therapy field.

Head Baek Il-hoon said, “Through this accreditation evaluation, despite our relatively short history, we were able to objectively prove the excellent educational capabilities and achievements of the Department of Physical Therapy,” and added, “We will further accelerate efforts to nurture specialized physical therapists responsible for community health by actively investing in a well-established curriculum and state-of-the-art practical training environment.”
