Juteki Korean Cultural Center Hosts GKS Online Briefing Session

Over 500 Participants... Guidance on GKS Selection Guidelines and More

[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Korean Cultural Center in Turkey held an online briefing session for the Government Scholarship Program for Foreign Students (GKS).

The GKS briefing, organized by the National Institute for International Education, was broadcast live via Zoom and YouTube on the 22nd (local time), with over 500 participants. It provided guidance on new selection guidelines, including a 10% additional score for those holding TOPIK level 3 or higher.

During the Q&A session, selected graduate and undergraduate students from Turkish universities directly answered questions from prospective applicants. Local Turkish students inquired about methods for studying Korean, student life after passing the GKS, and studying abroad related to science and engineering majors.

Merve Gokkmen, who is pursuing a doctoral program at Seoul National University, stated, “Korea is a country with several world-class universities based on a high-quality education system, and culturally attracts great interest worldwide through K-pop, Korean dramas, and movies. Especially, the cultural and linguistic similarities make student life a great opportunity for Turkish students to realize their dreams.”

Park Ki-hong, Director of the Korean Cultural Center in Turkey, said, “We will continue to hold educational events like this to provide useful information to students dreaming of studying in Korea and to help them achieve their goals. Starting in February, we plan to expand the existing study abroad counseling office at the cultural center to an online platform, offering real-time educational counseling three days a week.”
