[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Hampyeong County, Jeollanam-do announced on the 25th that it will expand the implementation of the county residents' safety insurance for all residents starting this year.
The county residents' safety insurance is a system in which the county directly contracts with an insurance company (Korea Local Finance Association) to pay a certain amount of insurance money to residents who suffer damage from various disasters, accidents, crimes, and so on.
In particular, starting this year, due to the nationwide spread of COVID-19, two items?death from infectious diseases and death from wild animal damage compensation?have been added, expanding the coverage from the existing 17 types to 19 types. This will be applied from the 1st of next month.
The support target includes all residents registered in Hampyeong County (including registered foreigners), and enrollment is automatic without any separate procedures.
The insurance premium is fully borne by the county, and automatic withdrawal is processed upon moving to another region.
The main coverage items, including the two newly added this year, are a total of 19 items: ▲death from natural disasters (including sunstroke, heatstroke, hypothermia) ▲death from explosion, fire, collapse injuries ▲permanent disability from explosion, fire, collapse injuries ▲death from injuries while using public transportation ▲permanent disability from injuries while using public transportation ▲death from hit-and-run or uninsured vehicle injuries ▲permanent disability from hit-and-run or uninsured vehicle injuries ▲death from robbery injuries ▲permanent disability from robbery injuries ▲death from drowning accidents ▲injury treatment for school zone traffic accidents ▲missing child search support fund ▲injuries to persons of merit ▲death from agricultural machinery accidents ▲permanent disability from agricultural machinery accidents ▲death from gas accidents ▲permanent disability from gas accidents.
Residents who suffer damage under these items can receive insurance payments by directly submitting the insurance claim form along with related supporting documents to the Korea Local Finance Association within three years from the date of the accident.

Meanwhile, last year in Hampyeong County, six residents (households) who suffered damage from drowning and agricultural machinery accidents received a total of approximately 76 million KRW in county residents' safety insurance payments.
