"Golden Time 5 Minutes" Gyeongju City Introduces Priority Signal System for Emergency Vehicles ... [Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] On the 25th, Gyeongju City announced that it has established an 'Emergency Vehicle Priority Signal System' to minimize property damage to citizens and ensure the rapid transport of emergency patients in case of emergencies such as fires.

This system is equipment that automatically controls traffic signals at the traffic control center by detecting the location of emergency vehicles such as fire trucks in advance, allowing them to pass through intersections without stopping.

When a fire truck approaches, the traffic signals all turn green through the central control center. Among the 23 cities and counties in Gyeongbuk Province, Gyeongju City is the first to have such a system in place.

The operational section covers all intersections in the downtown area from Dongguk University Gyeongju Hospital to Keimyung University Dongsan Hospital for ambulances. It has been in pilot operation since December last year, and after addressing any issues, it plans to begin full operation in March.

In particular, on the 17th of last month and the 21st of this month, joint 'Fire Truck Passage Training' was conducted with the Gyeongju Fire Station and Gyeongju Police Station, during which performance evaluations were held twice.

The city plans to expand the system to all intersections based on operational evaluations and results. With the introduction of this system, the city expects the arrival time of emergency vehicles at the scene and hospital transport time to be reduced by an average of 40 to 50% compared to before.

Mayor Ju Nak-young of Gyeongju said, "By supporting the rapid and safe operation of emergency vehicles, this system will greatly help secure the golden time in emergencies and protect the precious lives and property of citizens," and added, "We ask for the active understanding and cooperation of citizens passing through the pilot operation sections."
