COVID-19 New Cases Back to 400s... Impact of Cluster Infection at Daejeon Seongyo School On the afternoon of the 24th, a notice was posted at IEM International School in Daehung-dong, Jung-gu, Daejeon, where a large number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) were reported. [Asia Economy Reporter Lee Chun-hee] The daily number of new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in South Korea has risen back to the 400s.


The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced on the 25th at midnight that the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases increased by 437 from the previous day to 75,521.


The sources of infection for the new confirmed cases were 405 local transmissions and 32 imported cases.


Among the locally transmitted cases, a significant 30.9%, or 125 cases, were reported in Daejeon. This is attributed to a large-scale outbreak at an international missionary school in Daejeon. Of the 158 teachers and students living at the facility, 127 (including 1 from Suncheon-si, Jeonnam and 1 from Pohang-si, Gyeongbuk), accounting for 80.4%, tested positive.


In the Seoul metropolitan area, Seoul reported 91 cases (30.9%), Gyeonggi 72 cases (17.8%), and Incheon 13 cases (3.2%), totaling 176 confirmed cases in the metropolitan area, which accounts for 43.5% of the total.


Other regions reported the following cases: ▲Busan 19 ▲Gwangju 15 ▲Daegu 14 ▲Gyeongbuk 14 ▲Chungnam 13 ▲Gyeongnam 11 ▲Chungbuk 8 ▲Gangwon 3 ▲Jeonnam 3 ▲Ulsan 2 ▲Sejong 2. No cases were reported in Jeonbuk and Jeju.


There were 32 imported cases. Among them, 11 were detected during quarantine, and the remaining 21 were confirmed locally. Nineteen were Korean nationals and 13 were foreigners.


The number of patients who have recovered and been released from isolation reached 62,956, an increase of 426 from the previous day. Among the confirmed patients receiving inpatient treatment, the number of critically ill patients decreased by 7 to 275 compared to the previous day. The death toll rose by 11 to 1,360.


On the previous day, 21,737 diagnostic tests were conducted on suspected cases. At temporary screening clinics set up in the metropolitan area, 7,625 tests were performed, confirming 43 new cases.
