90% of 2030 Toss Users Plan to Continue or Expand Stock Investments

[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Nine out of ten millennials answered that they are either investing in stocks or plan to do so. Amid growing interest in individual investors' investments due to the Donghak Ant Movement, the KOSPI index surpassed the 3,000 mark, indicating that stocks have become a major investment destination.

Viva Republica, the operator of 'Toss,' announced on the 25th that a survey of 1,093 Toss users in their 20s and 30s found that 47% are already investing in stocks. Additionally, 42% of users who are not currently investing said they plan to invest in stocks in the future. Only 11% responded that they have no investment plans.

Among Toss users currently investing in stocks, 70% were beginners with less than one year of investment experience. Those with 1 to 3 years of experience accounted for 20%, and those with 3 years or more made up 5%. Users with over 5 years of stock investment experience were only 5%.

Investment experience in financial assets other than stocks was also found to be limited. Users with no investment experience outside of stocks accounted for about half, at 49%. Investors who had experience with Bitcoin, funds, or ELS were 28% and 23%, respectively.

The operating funds used for stock investment were most commonly under 1 million KRW at 37%. This was followed by 1 million to 5 million KRW (31%) and 5 million to 20 million KRW (19%).

Among respondents who do not currently invest in stocks but plan to, more than half (54%) said they do not invest because they do not know how to do it. This was more than double the 18% who said they do not have money to invest.

Regarding promising industries (multiple responses allowed) that non-investors think are attractive, IT-related stocks received overwhelming support at 54%, followed by semiconductor-related stocks (43%) and bio-related stocks (42%). Some respondents also showed interest in specific sectors such as aviation and daily necessities.

Jae-min Park, CEO of Toss Securities, emphasized, “Millennial investors want to handle everything via mobile and strongly prefer to use convenient mobile services for their financial lives. Toss Securities’ mobile-optimized service can be a good choice for the millennial generation, which has recently emerged as an important pillar of investment.”
