[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] Sangju City in Gyeongbuk announced on the 25th that it will launch a large-scale promotional campaign to highlight the excellence of Sangju's agricultural and specialty products targeting major cities such as Seoul and Busan in celebration of the Lunar New Year.
Sangju City will operate a non-face-to-face direct transaction market to increase the income of local farmers, while also carrying out a "Support Our Local Agricultural and Specialty Products" campaign.
Every holiday, Sangju has conducted promotional visits targeting sister local governments in major cities such as Seoul and Busan. This year, however, the agricultural and specialty product direct transaction market will be replaced with a non-face-to-face "online agricultural and specialty product direct transaction market," focusing on sales via delivery services.
The online direct transaction market first started on the 18th in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul. It will be operated in six sister local governments, including Gangseo-gu, Gangdong-gu, Gangnam-gu, Yongsan-gu in Seoul, and Yeonje-gu in Busan, until the 5th of next month.
Various items, including Sangju Chukhyup's premium luxury Hanwoo beef and major specialty products such as dried persimmons, rice, apples, and pears, will be sold at prices about 10% lower than market prices.
Mayor Kang Young-seok of Sangju said, "Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting domestic and international economic downturn, local farmers are facing difficulties in securing sales channels for their agricultural products. We will do our best to expand sales channels to alleviate the difficulties of Sangju's farmers, who live in an agriculture-centered city, even if only a little."
