GS25 Launches 'Luxstay', Industry's First Shared Space Item Storage Service

Storing Items at Nearby Stores... Expected to Be Popular Among Travelers
Opening from the 26th at Some Stores in Jeju Area... Plans to Expand Nationwide Within the Year

GS25 Launches 'Luxstay', Industry's First Shared Space Item Storage Service

[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] GS25 is launching a new concept shared storage service called 'LugStay' that stores items for customers at its stores.

GS Retail, which operates convenience store GS25, announced on the 25th that it has signed a business agreement with Blue Whale Company, which operates the real-time shared storage platform service 'LugStay' that allows customers to leave items using available space in nearby stores, and will provide the service of storing customers' items at its stores starting from the 26th in the Jeju area.

'LugStay' is a service where customers can leave luggage that is burdensome to carry or items to be delivered at a nearby GS25 convenience store’s available space. Customers can store, deliver, and pick up items by visiting a nearby store without having to search around for storage lockers. Convenience store owners can utilize their store’s available space as is, generating storage revenue and increasing visiting customers without additional costs, thereby gaining extra product sales.

To use 'LugStay' at GS25, customers search for GS25 stores that offer item storage on the 'LugStay app,' enter the type and quantity of items to be stored, then make a reservation and payment. After reservation, customers show the issued QR code to the store staff for check-in. At check-in, the staff takes a photo of the items to be stored and keeps them at the store. When picking up items, the photo taken by the staff is automatically recorded instead of the QR code, and showing this photo completes the check-out. The service applies insurance for damage and loss to minimize risks for both the store and customers. The usage fee ranges from 2,000 to 9,000 KRW, adjusted according to usage time and item size.

The service, which opens on the 26th, will first be introduced at some stores in Jeju, a region with many tourists, and then plans to expand nationwide within the year by selecting famous local tourist spots and areas with high foot traffic.

Sanghyun Kim, GS25 Service Product Manager, said, "We have collaborated with the promising startup LugStay to enhance customer convenience and activate store owners’ sales," adding, "By providing differentiated services, we will not only increase the number of visiting customers but also expand our position as a lifestyle platform."

Osanghyuk Blue Whale Company CEO said, "GS25, which is accessible 24 hours and highly convenient, is the optimal place to meet customers’ needs for item storage, delivery, and pickup," and added, "We will continue to expand LugStay stores so that customers can easily and conveniently leave their items anytime and anywhere."

LugStay is a real-time item storage service that partners with over 1,000 various stores nationwide to help customers easily leave and retrieve items during everyday activities such as travel, business trips, shopping, dating, and leisure. Currently, LugStay can also be used for secondhand goods transactions or parcel receipt purposes.
