[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) is carrying out the ‘Sindaebang Rainwater Pump Station Aging Facility Improvement Project’ to prevent safety accidents such as flood damage.

The Sindaebang Rainwater Pump Station, installed in 1996, was designed to handle rainfall with a 10-year return period, making it vulnerable to sudden heavy rainfalls. Therefore, a full-scale upgrade to enhance the facility’s capacity has been underway.

Accordingly, the district plans to invest a total budget of 930 million KRW to upgrade the facility to withstand rainfall with a 30-year return period.

After completing the detailed design last year, demolition of the aging submersible pumps began in January this year, with all construction expected to be completed by the end of April.

The main construction details include ▲replacement of three aging submersible pumps (50HP) ▲expansion of the sump capacity (from 445㎡ to 585㎡) ▲electrical and automatic control works due to sump capacity expansion, with a significant increase in sump capacity to prevent flooding in low-lying areas.

Once the pump station upgrade is completed, the district plans to conduct test operations to ensure there are no disruptions to this year’s flood control measures.

For more details about the project, contact the Flood Control Division at Dongjak-gu Office.

Kim Sang-hoon, head of the Flood Control Division, said, “With this replacement project of aging facilities at the Sindaebang Rainwater Pump Station, we will do our best to prevent accidents so that residents do not suffer flood damage during the summer rainy season.”

Meanwhile, the district operates six rainwater pump stations for flood prevention, including Heukseok Rainwater Pump Station, Daebang Rainwater Pump Station, Noryangjin Rainwater Pump Station, Bondong Rainwater Pump Station, and Boramae Rainwater Pump Station.
