[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Former lawmaker Na Kyung-won, who is running for the Seoul mayoral by-election, visited the Hongdae Walkable Street in Mapo-gu, Seoul on the 24th.
She visited stores of young self-employed business owners suffering from the economic downturn due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and listened to their difficulties while seeking support measures. Na also purchased hair ties being sold by a young merchant at the site.
Na said, "After meeting with the merchants, I heard that sales have dropped by 90% compared to a year ago," adding, "We need to consider legislation to compensate the losses of struggling small business owners with a more open mind." She emphasized, "We are considering creating a cultural media belt in the Hongdae and Sinchon areas where young people can simultaneously solve startup and housing issues."
The day before, Na visited the Jungang Market in Daerim-dong, Yeongdeungpo. After listening to citizens' voices, she expressed her welcome to the news of former Minister of SMEs and Startups Park Young-sun's candidacy in a meeting with reporters.
Na said, "She has worked hard, and it is pleasing that she is taking on another challenge by running for Seoul mayor together," adding, "I hope we have opportunities to discuss serious concerns for Seoul together and that everyone will do well."
