214-class (1800-ton class) submarine
[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter]A 214-class (1800-ton class) submarine of the Navy was towed due to a malfunction during regular maintenance in the East Sea.
According to the Navy on the 23rd, the 214-class submarine moving in the sea east of Pohang, Gyeongbuk, has been under regular maintenance from June 2019 until May this year. After completing sea trials east of Pohang, an error alarm was detected in the propulsion system while navigating on the surface to return to base.
The Navy stated that the submarine stopped to prevent equipment damage and was towed back to the base early that morning with the support of a tugboat.
A Navy official said, "The submarine, which was under regular maintenance until May, had completed sea trials during maintenance and was returning on surface navigation when this occurred," adding, "There were no abnormalities with the crew or other equipment, and the cause is being investigated according to maintenance procedures."
