[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] Two men in their 20s who broke into vacant apartments and houses across the country and stole valuables worth hundreds of millions of won were arrested by the police.
On the 22nd, Wansan Police Station in Jeonju, Jeonbuk, announced that they had apprehended A (26) and B (24) on charges of special theft and applied for arrest warrants.
The two, who are senior and junior acquaintances, are accused of entering two apartment balcony windows in Jeonju between 7 and 9 p.m. on the 8th and stealing valuables worth approximately 14.56 million won, including jewelry and cash.
Their crimes were committed not only in Jeonju but also targeted vacant houses in various locations nationwide, including Busan, Pohang, Ulsan, and Daegu.
The police believe that through 14 incidents, the suspects stole amounts totaling hundreds of millions of won.
The two first searched online for houses that were easy to break into, then visited the sites and targeted only places where windows were open, according to the investigation.
During the tracking investigation, the police identified their escape route and found them hiding in a lodging facility in Osan-si, Gyeonggi-do.
The police advised, "To prevent theft damage, be sure to lock balcony windows when going out," and added, "Especially on lower floors, installing security bars is necessary to actively prevent damage."
