[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] GreenPlus, a smart farm specialist company, announced on the 22nd that it has been selected as an ‘Excellent Digital New Deal Company’ by the Ministry of Science and ICT.
GreenPlus was recognized for digitally transforming the agricultural sector, classified as a primary industry, through smart farms and was selected as an ‘Excellent Digital New Deal Company.’ GreenPlus is the leading advanced greenhouse company in Korea, holding 70 patents related to smart farms domestically and internationally.
They constructed a 600,000-pyeong smart farm in Japan, an advanced agricultural country, and exported smart farms to several Asian countries including China, UAE, and Uzbekistan. By elevating the previously barren domestic advanced greenhouse sector to a global level, they have achieved a cumulative export amount of 100 million USD to date.
The Ministry of Science and ICT visited GreenPlus’s subsidiary, ‘Green K Farm,’ to listen to the challenges faced by GreenPlus as an Excellent Digital New Deal Company and to encourage its employees. Green K Farm, located in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, is the largest single horticultural smart farm in Korea, primarily cultivating strawberries. Recently, they succeeded in cultivating the superfood ‘Cissus,’ known for its effects on diet and joints, for the first time in the world using a smart farm. All products sold domestically are currently imported, making Green K Farm’s Cissus the only domestically produced product.
Jang Seok-young, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, explained, "GreenPlus’s smart farm solution enables stable agricultural product supply in response to climate change" and added, "It contributed to improving cultivation efficiency."
He continued, "It is a model case of the Digital New Deal that promotes the digital transformation of the agricultural sector, classified as a primary industry, and demonstrates the potential for creating new markets through ICT convergence," adding, "The Ministry of Science and ICT will promote case-centered Digital New Deal publicity, such as with Green K Farm, to achieve Digital New Deal outcomes that the public can feel."
Park Young-hwan, CEO of GreenPlus, said, "We will grow further based on being selected as a leading Digital New Deal company," and added, "We plan to complete a system that can collect big data accumulated from about 1 million pyeong of smart farms constructed so far and develop AI that utilizes this data."
