Active Call for Opposition Unity Efforts... Targeting Chairman Kim Jong-in
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Voices criticizing Kim Jong-in, the Emergency Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, for his unification method that does not rule out a three-way race have emerged within the party. Former People Power Party lawmaker Kim Moo-sung sharply criticized Chairman Kim's approach to the Seoul mayoral race.
On the 21st, former lawmaker Kim said at the 'Towards a Better World (Mapo Forum)' seminar held at Hyundai Building in Mapo, Seoul, "It seems they have become arrogant thinking our party's approval rating has risen a bit, saying 'we can win even in a three-way race.' But analyzing the polls shows that the People Power Party's approval rating has slightly increased while the opposing party's rating has dropped," adding, "In this situation, there should be no talk about winning even in a three-way race."
He continued, "The people's sentiment is that the current administration has greatly damaged our country and darkened its future, and more than 60% of the people hope that the opposition will definitely win, and that this success will lead to the presidential election. This hope is for the unification of opposition candidates," emphasizing, "The most important thing is to achieve a regime change in the 2022 presidential election," and added, "If we lose the Seoul mayoral election, the presidential election will also be lost. Therefore, the unification of opposition candidates must be the top priority."
Although former lawmaker Kim did not directly name Chairman Kim, he openly criticized the opposition's unification method.
Earlier, Representative Ahn demanded that the People Power Party open its primary platform. However, Chairman Kim has expressed opposition. On this day as well, after concluding the Emergency Committee meeting, Chairman Kim met with reporters and drew a line, saying, "Since the People Power Party representative will be confirmed first, other matters can be considered afterward, so there is no need to discuss this further."
