[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Yoo Eun-hye will hold a meeting with six teacher organizations to overcome the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) crisis.


On the 21st, the Ministry of Education announced that it will hold the 'Ministry of Education-Teacher Organizations Representatives Meeting' at the Korea Educational Facilities Safety Institute in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, and will release a 'Joint Declaration of Teacher Organizations for Overcoming the COVID-19 Crisis and Ensuring the Safety and Growth of All Students.'


The meeting will be attended by the Korea Federation of Teachers' Associations, Good Teachers Movement, Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union, Practical Education Teachers' Association, New School Network, and Teachers' Labor Union Federation. The Korea Federation of Teachers' Associations operates research on remote class status and teacher capacity building, the Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union runs 'Together,' which shares educational materials necessary for online learning, and the Good Teachers Movement runs the 'Learning Partnership 119 Campaign,' which supports out-of-class management for children struggling with learning.


The joint declaration is expected to reflect the teachers' intentions to alleviate social anxiety about learning and safety caused by COVID-19 and to participate in overcoming social crises such as school quarantine and learning gap issues.


Deputy Prime Minister Yoo Eun-hye said, "I am grateful that teacher organizations voluntarily operate various programs such as sharing learning materials during vacations to resolve learning gaps and strive to overcome the COVID-19 crisis," adding, "The role of teachers and teacher organizations is more important than anything else in overcoming current and future hardships, and I ask teacher organizations to continue working together."
